SCHACK® Forced Circulation

The SCHACK® Forced Circulation Process Gas Cooler (PGC), also known as the La Mont Boiler, is designed for challenging nitric acid production environments. This water tube design ensures reliable operation while minimizing corrosion through optimized materials and a precise operating system.

The flat coil heating surface elements enable a compact single vessel design, while the control evaporator technology ensures constant gas outlet temperatures over the full load range. The low gas side pressure drop and low start-up steam requirements enhance efficiency, making this cooler highly reliable and cost-effective.

Additionally, the cooled support structure for the catalyst basket improves durability, while externally accessible headers and easy removal of heating surfaces simplify maintenance and reduce downtime.

The SCHACK® Natural Circulation Process Gas Cooler (PGC), with its fire tube design, is built to handle high-temperature applications in nitric acid production. This design features parallel fire tube bundles arranged in the lower part of the cooler, acting as an evaporator, while tube coils in the upper section generate superheated steam.

With integrated flexible tube sheets, our Natural Circulation PGC reduces stress on the tubes and welds, leading to enhanced durability and extended service life. The gap-free welding technology effectively prevents crevice corrosion, ensuring reliable performance in even the harshest environments.

This design eliminates the need for circulation pumps, significantly improving system reliability and reducing operational costs. The patented tube sheet cooling system enhances cooling efficiency, while specially designed ferrules ensure the longest possible lifetime of the system.
