The SCHMIDT’SCHE® Syngas Cooler is based on our proven Double Tube & Oval Header Technology, offering optimized protection against erosion, deposits, and uneven flow conditions – ideal for coal and petcoke gasification.

The SCHACK® Syngas Cooler GFC (Gasification) provides robust heat transfer in systems with high dust and slag loads. Its water tube design ensures stable performance, low pressure drop, and easy maintenance for challenging syngas environments.

For partial oxidation reactors, the SCHACK® POX Syngas Cooler features our patented gas inlet nozzle and a self-cleaning tube design, protecting against corrosion, erosion, and metal dusting while allowing efficient part-load and online cleaning operation.

Our Reactors and Gasifiers are designed for maximum flexibility in feedstock and process configuration. Whether for RWGS, methane pyrolysis, or large-scale POX plants, we offer membrane wall or refractory-lined solutions with integrated radiant, convective, or quench cooling – enabling higher reaction rates, increased product yields, and greater sustainability.

SCHMIDT'SCHE® Syngas Cooler

The SCHMIDT’SCHE® Syngas Cooler is engineered to meet the demanding needs of gasification processes. Utilizing our proven Double Tube & Oval Header Technology, this cooler effectively handles harsh operating conditions and high abrasive dust loads common in coal and petcoke gasification applications.

Our Syngas Coolers combine the advantages of both fire tube and water tube designs, offering superior protection against tube inlet erosion and the formation of gas-side deposits. The innovative design eliminates the need for ferrules, ensuring long-term reliability and durability.

Each tube is equipped with its own cooling elements, allowing the system to self-adjust based on the individual heat load. This results in optimized heat recovery and improved process efficiency, even in the presence of uneven gas flow distribution.

With thin-walled oval headers, the cooler minimizes mechanical and thermal stresses, protecting the magnetite layer on the tubes and ensuring extended operational life. High cooling water flow velocities further enhance cooling efficiency and ensure the removal of particles that could damage the equipment.

The SCHACK® Syngas Cooler is designed for high gas inlet temperatures, providing efficient heat recovery while preventing liquid or sticky slag particles from contacting the heat transfer surface. By generating high-pressure steam through heat transfer from the raw gas, it plays a critical role in gasification processes.

Available in membrane wall or double shell designs, the cooler is built to withstand extreme temperatures, improving process efficiency by up to 5% compared to direct water quenching systems. The integrated water bath and slag crusher safely reduce slag fragments to manageable sizes for downstream processing.

The SCHACK® POX Syngas Cooler is engineered for partial oxidation (POX) reactors, handling extreme temperatures up to 1,5 °C and feedstocks rich in heavy metals. With our patented gas inlet nozzle design and superimposed cooling, it offers reliable protection against corrosion, erosion, and metal dusting.

Its self-cleaning tube geometry maintains heat transfer efficiency, while thin-walled surfaces ensure precise temperature control. Designed for easy access, the replaceable coils and interchangeable inlet tubes reduce maintenance time and increase system uptime.
