Foundation of the Schmidt'sche Heißdampfgesellschaft mbH (SHG) in Kassel by Wilhelm Schmidt. Subsequent establishment of subsidiaries in England, France and the USA for the purpose to sell licence patents, first of all the Schmidt'sche superheater for locomotive steam engines.

Development of the world's first high-pressure steam boiler with operating steam pressure of 60 bar. The system is subsequently produced by licensees.

Otto Hartmann becomes technical director and member of the management.

1925

The Schmidt-Hartmann boiler, a two-pressure system particularly insensitive to reduced water quality because of indirect steam generating process, is first introduced and marketed very successfully.

1928

Realization of SHG's design of a super-highspeed three-cylinder combined-highpressure locomotive for fast train application built by Henschel company in Kassel and exported to various countries all over the globe.

1934

Vereinigte Kesselwerke AG (VKW) Düsseldorf become the most important user and licensee of SHG designed boilers.

1935

VKW supplied over 100 SHG boilers to industrial electricity quantity buyers, first of all IG Farben in Leuna and Bitterfeld.

1939

In the course of change from Diesel to steam for fuel saving reasons the majority of towboats on the German rivers and canals are retrofitted with SHG high-pressure boilers.

1943

In a bomb raid on October 22, the SHG administration buildings including the design departments and the experimental workshop are completely destroyed.

1945

After the end of World War II, SHG is facing a completely new start. Apart from buildings and workshops, the company has also lost all its patents and international shareholdings.

1949

After the first difficult post-war years, SHG, now under a new management, begins to focus on the development and design of waste heat steam generators, initially marketed to the chemical industry and steel mills.

The SHG double-tube system, now famous and proven all over the world , is first introduced.

1952

The company relocates its workshops, parts of its design offices and its registered place of business from Kassel to Göttingen.

Within only four years 120 high-pressure boilers are fabricated.

1955

SHG develops a Schmidt'sche superheater design for locomotive achieving 750°F (400°C) steam temperature. This design is adopted by the locomotive industry worldwide.

1956

Westofen GmbH, Wiesbaden, a subsidiary of Didier Werke AG acquires all shares held by Wilhelm Schmidt's.

1959

SHG develops the world's first transfer line exchanger for the ethylene production process. The Schmidt'sche® design with Double Tube System and Oval Header is integral part of the ethylene production process responsible for extreme rapid cooling of the crack gas and additionally generating high pressure steam.

1960

The first Schmidt'sche® TLE is installed and successfully taken into operation at Rheinische Olefinwerke in Wesseling near Cologne.

1964

SHG relocates its head office back to Kassel.

1965

A new fabrication facility with a block of office buildings are erected in Kassel-Bettenhausen.

1970

The fabrication in Göttingen is abandoned.

The ‘70s are marked by a streamlining of the company's production program. Heat transfer components for chemical, petrochemical and metallurgical production processes becomes mainstay. TLEs for ethylene plants, waste heat recovery systems for pyrite roasting, sulphur combustion and copper or lead smelting applications, as well as process gas and flue gas cooling systems for steam reforming processes are now the predominant products.

Fabrication of the 1000th Schmidt'sche® TLE and export to 20 countries all over the world is celebrated.

1979

EVT Energie- und Verfahrenstechnik GmbH, Stuttgart, acquires SHG.

1989

GEC ALSTHOM, Paris acquires EVT and all affiliated companies like SHG.

1995

Schmidt'sche Heissdampfgesellschaft mbH merges with Rekuperator Schack GmbH of Düsseldorf and becomes SHG-Schack GmbH.

1998

GEC ALSTHOM becomes ALSTOM and registers at the London, Paris and New York stock exchange. SHG-Schack GmbH changes to ALSTOM Energy Systems SHG GmbH.

1999

ALSTOM integrates the power sector of ABB and changes its name to ABB ALSTOM POWER. The new company name is ABB ALSTOM POWER SHG GmbH.

2000

New name change to ALSTOM Power Energy Recovery GmbH.

2005

Expansion of the fabrication capacity by establishing a second workshop in Lohfelden nearby Kassel.

2010

In July ALSTOM Power Energy Recovery GmbH former Schmidt´sche Heißdampf Gesellschaft (SHG) celebrates its 100th birthday.

2012

Karsten Stückrath becomes Managing Director.

2014

Thorben Schäfer becomes second Managing Director.
Formation of the SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK Division of the newly-founded ARVOS Group.
