SYNGAS COOLER FOR PARTIAL OXIDATION PROCESSES

The development of Syngas Coolers, which are installed downstream of Partial Oxidation reactors, requires a high level of technological know-how and practical experience.

Complex technical and physical issues of processing natural gas, light/heavy fuel oils or various residues of oil which are loaded with heavy metals such as vanadium, nickel, iron and other by-products can be solved with SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK expertise and equipment.

Continuous efforts by SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK in R&D, engineering and fabrication techniques have permitted higher operating tempera­tures and pressure increases in the Syngas Coolers/steam generators to as high as 100 bar on the syngas side and 150 bar on the water/steam side.

The syngas is formed in the reactor of the Partial Oxidation process and flows via specially shaped and highly sophisticated cooled gas inlet nozzles into helically-wound tubes of fire-tube design. These tube bundles known as ‘candles’ are cooled by the surrounding evaporating water/steam mixture. The shell is sized to ensure adequate water/steam separation and provide sufficient hold-up time. No additional steam drum and interconnecting piping are needed.

The generated syngas is typically treated for application in various chemical processes or is used as feedstock for IGCC power generation. In addition to reactors and Syngas Coolers for the Partial Oxidation process all other components such as Economizers and Steam Superheaters are available from SCHMIDTSCHE SCHACK.
